RYA Day Skipper Practical CourseThe Day Skipper course enables you to skipper a small cruising yacht in familiar waters by day. Before you start the 5 day practical course you should have had a minimum of 5 days sea time, 4 night hours and 100 miles. You can gain this experience by taking a 5 day Competent Crew course. You should also have Day Skipper Theory or knowledge to that level. You can take this RYA shorebased course as a 5 day theory course over the winter season in our classroom or as an On-line Day Skipper Theory course.
During the Day Skipper course you will be taught basic pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and navigation all in the sheltered waters around Anglesey. After the course you should be able to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day. You will be continually assessed and awarded a certificate for passing the course. After this course we recommend you build up your experience either by taking one of our milebuilding cruises, chartering a yacht or sailing on your own or friendís boats. The next stages in the RYA cruising scheme are Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster theory and the Coastal Skipper practical course.
From 1st April 2012 the Day Skipper course fee will include the RYA new style of certificate which will be registered on the RYA database. This will improve the ability of the RYA to provide replacement certificates in the event of a certificate being lost. Students will be required to provide a passport size photograph when attending the Day Skipper course.
This is a five day course and can be done in a single block or one three and one two day chunks. It can be done as any of our 2 plus 3 RYA Courses, simply choose which days you wish to join and give us a call or email.
